Capability
Self-Assessment
Where do you stand on the 20 FGX capabilities? Leadership, Human Experience, Trust and the cross-cutting skills every public servant needs, on the G0–G4 scale.

How the G-scale works
The same five levels apply to every capability. Go on what you have actually done, not what you could do if asked. Most people sit at G1–G2, and that's a perfectly good place to be.

If that address is on your organisation's list, a sign-in link is on its way and should arrive within a minute or two. It works once and lasts 30 minutes.
Before you start
This covers all 20 FGX capabilities. Most people take 20–30 minutes. It saves as you go, so you can stop and come back whenever you like.
How it works
For each capability, pick the level that matches your work today, then tell us about one real piece of work that shows it. At G3 and G4 we ask for one or two more examples, because those levels are about influencing others and setting standards beyond your own team.
The Future Government Institute reads every self-assessment before results are released. Where what you've written doesn't quite support the level you picked, we'll adjust it and tell you why.
🔒 Privacy
We keep your name, work email, role and answers so we can build your capability profile and, with names removed, compare organisations. They're held by the Future Government Institute on Notion and Resend, in the United States. Your manager sees your levels, never what you write. Your organisation sees results by team.
Keep it general. Please don't include anything classified, security-protected or operationally sensitive, or personal details about colleagues or members of the public.
About you
First, a little about your role
Thirty seconds, so we can compare like with like and show your organisation how capability varies by seniority. None of this affects your levels; those come from what you tell us about your work.
Your self-assessment
Pick the level that matches your work today, then tell us about it. Capabilities marked Key for your role are the ones your role leans on most, so give those a little extra care.

Thank you
That's everything. Your answers are now with the Future Government Institute for review, and we'll email you when your capability profile is ready to see.
